At LanguageBird, we do not give graded quizzes or tests. Students are graded on their participation (20%), homework (20%), use of language (30%), and their semester project (30%). This makes projects our main form of assessment at LanguageBird. In this section, you’ll learn about how we implement Project-Based Learning (PBL) at LanguageBird.

Don’t Wait, Communicate!

From the very first class, it’s recommended to introduce the semester project to your students and to go over the rubric for the project found at the top of the LNG document (see below).

ACTFL’s World-Readiness Standards

ACTFL’s World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages provide a framework that guides language instruction toward developing learners’ communicative competence and intercultural understanding. At LanguageBird, we use these standards to shape both instructional practices and project design, ensuring students engage meaningfully with language in real-world contexts. The standards are organized in five goal areas: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. You already know the first one – Communication – and its three modes: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational.
