4. First Lesson and Level Change Protocol

Now you know how to conduct classes at LanguageBird. However, the first class with a new student looks a bit different…

At LanguageBird, during the first lesson with a student, we assess whether they’ve been placed in the correct level by confirming they can do the course objectives from the previous level. What if the student is a complete beginner? We don’t assess the level but the rest of the class looks similar. Watch the video below for more information.

If, according to your assessment in the first lesson (or two), the student is not placed in the correct level, we suggest to change the level or add mastery lessons.

  • If the student is too advanced for the level they are enrolled in, recommend to level up.
  • If the student’s language knowledge and skills have significant gaps, recommend leveling down.
  • If the student has some gaps, recommend adding up to 10 mastery lessons.

❗Often, students might be placed in a level that is too advanced for their skills but must complete this level for transcript continuity. In this case, recommend the maximum amount of mastery lessons (10).

Work through the steps below to learn how to fill out the level change/mastery recommendation form. Once complete, please send it via a support ticket.
